Services All services are at 9.45 am (except where stated) with coffee afterwards. 1st Sunday - Morning Service- Anglican 2nd Sunday - Holy Communion- Anglican 3rd Sunday - (8.00 a.m.) Holy Communion (BCP said) ALSO (9.45 a.m.) Family Service - Methodist 4th Sunday - Holy Communion - Methodist 5th Sunday - CUF service - joint with Chittlehampton and Umberleigh - venue rotates between the 3 churches It should be noted that on the whole the congregation remains the same whether the service is Anglican or Methodist and most consider themselves as attending St. Paul s Church rather than an Anglican or a Methodist church. The merger took place in 1974 and at first some only came to services of one persuasion but the distinction has ceased to be important to most. As a result we have a wide variety of services with a wide variety of leaders which is stimulating. In practical terms the merger involves the Methodist and Anglican ministers each drawing up their own service rotas. The Methodist minister and a Methodist representative both sit on the Parochial Church Council. At the outset the members insisted that Holy Communion be shared. A reduction to the Diocesan funds is made in recognition of funds paid to the Methodist Circuit based on numbers of Methodist members. The Sunday School has been replaced by wallets of activity sheets that can be done in the pews or in a play area at the back. This is an experiment, necessitated by the difficulty in finding two adults to be in the vestry with the Sunday School to comply with health and safety regulations. The Home group includes folk from Chittlehampton and Filleigh and at the moment tends to meet in Umberleigh. The latest programme is attached. They meet on Wednesday evenings except in the weeks when we have a pot luck supper on a Thursday night. These attract folk from a variety of parishes , up to 16 And to a variety of venues. We all enjoy a splendid supper and its followed by a talk from an outside speaker who can be relied upon to broaden our horizons. As the three parishes are in the process of forming a "mission community" with High Bray, North Molton, East Buckland, Chittlehamholt, Twitchen and Wardleigh, Satterleigh and Charles this is a good opportunity to get to know each other. We have a good team of Bell Ringers and new ringers are always welcome. Information on meetings etc can be gained from the weekly Sunday link sheet available at the 9.45 services and left in the church. |
